  1. This media text is a small picture of writing that says “Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue , I’d Rather Be Single Then Be With You”. The writng is sparkly and the letters “rose are red” and “then be with you “are in red “violets are blue and “I’d Rather be single” are in blue. Also there is a silver sparkly boder around each word.I picked this media text because I don’t like Valentine’s Day and it was the most appropriate out of all the anti Valentine’s Day media texts in my room.

  2. This media text is a small little toy with Mickey mouse and Minnie mouse holding hands. On this media text there are many little hearts on both Minnie’s and Mickey’s clothing with one HUGE heart surrounding them. With one of thier hands their holding each others hands and with the other hand they are holding a small little heart which reads ” Happy Valentines Day” . Also, there are small little folours under them. The colors on this media text are pink, purple, and green. I think the person who created this toy chose these colors because of Valentines Day. If this media text contained other colors such as black or grey I and I think many others wouldn’t think it is related to Valentines Day. I think this because Valentines Day colors are usually lovely such as pink and red. Black or grey aree colors that remind me of boring and dull stuff which is not related to Valentines Day. I chose this media text because I thought it was cute and was meant for Valentines Day and also I thought it had a powerful message.

    Heart Book

The heart book is a simple book that is red and shaped like a heart. The pages inside are blank so you can draw or write in it. But the cover is the main attraction because the cover changes in the light. It has hearts and flowers that change pattern. The red heart book definitely symbolizes Valentin’s Day because the book is red and in the shape of a heart (the colors of Valentine’s Day are red and pink. The heart shape also symbolizes Valentine’s Day). People who draw or write notes a lot and likes Valentine’s Day would like this. (for ages 7-12)

My Analysis of a Valentines Day Media Text
    By : Brian Chau

My media text is a Shoppers Drug Mart flyer. The colors in this flyer are pink, though with different shades (the items are different colors of course). This leads me to believe that Shoppers Drug Mart relates the color pink to Valentines day. That, FYI is a stereotype. I believe that I like it because there is a lot of pictures of food. On the other hand, my parents would only note that the words ”sale, % off, bonus, etc” appear multiple times in the flyer I’ve seem the ad multiple times through newspapers and other flyers .Its main features include the Shoppers Drug Mart logo and the items. It’s purpose is to sell the items (what do you think a flyer is for?).It’s bias to the fact that Valentines day is for girls because most of the items are beauty items. If I could change one thing I would add a men section focused on men.

My Valentine’s Day media text is a stuffed tweety bird with a red robe that has hearts on it. The bird has red lip marks on its head and cheeck- which i think are the main features. It’s made by Looney Tunes TM. Warner Bros owns the copyright for this product. The intended audience for this product is people who are in love or people who like tweety bird. I like this product because I think it’s cute. Maybe little kids would also want this product because it has attractive colours and kids usually like stuffed animals. People who don’t believe in Valentine’s day might not like it. If I could change this text I would put in a voice to it.

My media text is a valentines card. It has the colors: pink, white and red. I think the colors matter a lot and influences the media text strongly. If my media text was in black and blue, my first impression would not be that it is for Valentine’s Day. Also, there is a balloon in a shape of a heart on it, with a bird holding onto it saying: Help, i’m floating away! This heart also shows that this media text is for Valentine’s Day because it is the symbol for “love”. On Valentine’s day, we give and share love. I believe this media text is for young-aged children. It is very cute, and not mature. On a more mature, and adult card, I would imagine some roses and a bottle of wine with some red or pink shades. I chose this media text, because I think children media texts are very different than how adult media texts are portrayed.

    Trident Layers/valentine’s Commercial
Most people have seen this commercial(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d_NDsHOn3E)
This commercial is for advertising Trident Layers gum. It is about a man who is in love with a piece of Trident Layers gum.(note, there’s always something pink other than the gum for valentine’s day)
He does ridiculous things like marry the gum. The main message is that you will be in LOVE with the gum after you’ve tried it. This media text is produced by Trident, a gum company. This company obviously benifits from this commercial, because it attracts more customers. On the other hand, the competition of Trident who are not making commercials at the moment are negetavely affected by this text, because they are not putting up any ads to compete with Trident over customers.Somebody might also see this commercial differently. A young child my not realise it is just a commercial, and might think people really do this!

My media text is GODIVA chocolate. I belive that around this time ( valentined day) that men and women like to express their love with chocolate. The message I get from chocolate is that its made to take you in a different place, to set mood and allow you to taste different flavors. The producers and makers of this product want their audience to not only taste different flavors but to enjoy it. I think that the intended audience for this product is people who like sweet things and who like to set different moods and experience different things. Every media text has stereotypes and so does this one chocolate is not every man’s or women’s choice there are lots of other things that can set mood or take you to a different place or where you can taste new flavors. So there are definetly more things/media texts to give a warm valentines day feel. :)

    Valentine’s Day Media text- Analysis

This media text is a Valentine’s Day card which says, “For Someone Special,” and “A warm and very special Valentine’s Day message.” There is a picture of ordinary brown chocolates, but there is only 1 red chocolate out of all the chocolates. I think this card contains a stereotype, because it is a stereotype that Valentine’s Day is only for couples. And I know this card is designed for couples, because the poem inside the card is stereotypically meant for couples. I think the intended audience for this media text are people who are involved in a love relationship, such as husbands and wives. But if I were to change this card, I would go against the stereotype that this card is promoting- Valentine’s Day is for couples. To do that, I could take out the love poem, expanding the audience into couples, family, friends, etc, so that more of these cards can be sold.

This is a SpongeBob SquarePants valentines day card. It has a picture of SpongeBob and patrick on it using the phone(seashell) and it says ” Collect call from: your valentine!” on it.
The colours on it are: pink, yellow, purple, brown, white, black, blue, green, and metallic.
I think my parents and my friends would like because then they know that someon cares about them and thinks about them.
Someone else who would want it would maybe be someone who wants to cheer someone or someone who has a passion for someone.
The company who makes this card is Viacom International inc. created biy Stephen Hillenburg.
I think for one of these cards it cots around 25 cents because for a pack it costs around 3 dollars and I know that for individual sale is more expensive then what it should cost.

This media text is a furry stuffed teddy bear winking and holding a red heart with the words “I Love You!” stitched on it. The color of the teddy bear is in white and the color of the text on the heart is also in white. If I could change this media text, I would change the color of “I Love You” to pink instead of white, because pink and red are more of a Valentines Day color than white. I think that this media text is suitable for Valentines Day because Valentines Day is about love and the words “I Love You” on the red heart symbolize love. For me, this teddy bear is mostly for girls because the stereotype is that most girls like fuzzy and cute stuffed animals more than boys, and I agree with that stereotype. I like this media text because I like to collect cute stuffed animals for my room, but adults may not like this because they would not find it useful or interesting.

  12. Valentine’s day Magazine
My media text is a Twist Valentine’s magazine. The main colours that you would see first are red, white and pink.On the front cover there are different celebrities faces such as Selena Gomez,Justin BIEBER, Taylor Lautner and many more. There are also hearts all around the front cover and Valentine’s Day stories in BIG red letter with a white outlining.Inside the magazine there are different stories about relationship and quizzes about fashion and if you have good relationship skills. The audience Twist was targeting were pre-teens and teens that just came out of relationships or who want to get in one. I think this symbolizes Valentine’s Day because the magazine talks about love and there are lots of hearts in red and pink. I chose this media text because the whole magazine is about Valentine’s Day, with exception of fashion parts.

  13. Lian

My media text is an “It’s Happy Bunny” Valentine’s Day card. On the top of the card it says “I’m writing a song about you” and on the bottom it says “What rhymes with Dorkface?” The card has a yellow Happy Bunny on it and it is playing a red guitar (red=Valentine’s Day colour). The background is pink so it represents Valentine’s Day because pink is a Valentine’s Day colour. On the back of the card it says “Happy Valentine’s Day!” and it gives you space to write who is giving and recieving the card. I don’t think that the front of the card does a very good job of representing Valentine’s Day because the only thing that really represents Valentine’s Day is the pink and red. I think that the card would be better if they added hearts on it and made the bunny purple instead of yellow because then it would represent a Valentine’s Day colour. This card is probably targeted towards kids and pre-teens from ages 7-12 becuase kids that are younger will probably prefer something like Barbie or Superman but kids ages 7-12 don’t like things like that anymore. I think they will prefer something that isn’t for little kids but is still cute and funny.

  14. Valentine’s day media text analysis:”The Flirty Flasher Dog”
    TEXT
This media text is a flirty looking dog standing upright in a red bathrobe & bunny slippers. He(I assume its most likely to be a he) is abviously trying to impress a lady by revealing his red, with pink hearts boxer shorts and clock “bling-bling” while singing “I Need Your Loving”.
The color of the dog’s skin is mainly a light beige, with a bit of caramel brown in the ears and around the snout. There is black on the nose and on the dog wrinkles. The color of the big bathrobe is red. The boxer shorts are mainly red, but covered with pink hearts. The clock bling bling has a black outline, red hearts and a white circle base. And lastly, his bunny slippers are white, with a pink nose and mouth and black soles.
The message of this media text is quite clear. He(the dog) needs somebody to love, somebody to be his Valentine on Valentine’s day. I know that because the song that he is singing is called “Baby I Need Your Loving” and his expression, clothes and actions add to this proof.
I think this media text challenge/breaks a stereotype: men don’t wear pink or hearts. But, this dog is wearing it, so it kind of breaks the stereotype.
    `

    • AUDIENCE
My parents, some of my friends and I like this media text, because we think it is cute in a funny way.Though, I think this media text can scare small children(newborns, certain toddlers) and maybe even older kids or adults. The small children may be disturbed by the fast movement and the loud singing repeating over and over again. The older kids and adults can get annoyed as well and maybe they don’t like Valentine’s day!

    • PRODUCTION
This media text was produced by Brian Holland, Edward Holland Jr., and Lamont Dozier. The music is used by permission from STONE AGATE MUSIC.( A division of JOBETE MUSIC CO, INC)
The purpose of this media text is to be sold on Valentine’s day and given to a special someone(probably a women), presented in a humourous way.

    • I agree that it might break a stereotype or two…what stereotypes do you think it reinforces?

    Media Studies: Valentine’s Media Text

This media text is a bear holding two hearts in each hand. This bear has nice texture to it and is relatively small. It also has a pink bowtie and is kind of half smiling. The bear does not advertise any company on the front, back, bottom, or on the sides. It looks like something that you would give to your Valentine on Valentine’s Day. The colors on this media text are golden brown, red, pink, dark brown, and black. The bear has a nice contrast to it which makes it look more realistic. The colors make it look like an ornament that somebody would put in their bathroom. I think this media text could be more likely for a girl to have because in the hearts there are these light, shiny, and jewellery looking pieces in it. The only thing I would do to change this media text to make it look better would just be to enlarge it some more because in this state it blends in with the other Valentine’s stuff, the real key is to make this media text stand out from all the other things that you find in a shop. So, finally when people look at it people will want to buy this cute little bear.

Valentines day media text analysis Malavan 7E 02/22/11

I chose a Valentines day card for this analysis.
The outside has a white background with little red hearts and some pink ribbon(not real ribbon its drawn) and in the middle of the front there is a big heart with a flower in the middle and a teddy bear’s head and arms sticking out at the top( the topof the big heart that is the rest of the bear is behind the heart I guess). The inside of the card is red with white writing.
I think this heart is designed for adults because it is not colourfull with funny drawings or things like that its is very simple and I guess I don’t really like it so I’m guessing adults would.

    Valentine’s Day Media Text
My media text is a cupid eraser. He has white wings and is holding a red heart. This eraser is related to Valentine’s Day because Cupid is a symbol of love and the heart is red, a Valentine’s Day color. I think this was made for children around 7 years old, because that was when I received it. The eraser is colored and shaped, so it seems like something a child that age would like. A child could use it to erase pictures, or they could play with it. This eraser doesn’t break any stereotypes, because the heart is red. Cupid is usually a sign of love, but people who don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day or know about cupid could see this text differently. They might think this is a little baby with wings, wearing a diaper and holding a heart. They may see it as a gift to give to a baby. It could be left on a high shelf as a decoration in the baby’s room. But the baby shouldn’t play with the eraser, because they could think it is food and eat it.

    • Good observation Ruby! I have never considered that a different audience might see cupid as an image appropriate for babies. Not only that, but they might also be concerned that cupid seems to be condoning baby’s playing with sharp objects like arrows :o

A Valentine’s Day Media Text Analysis:

My media text is a cute plushie and a piece of candy. Well, to be precise,it is a little brown teddy bear with black button eyes holding a piece of heart-shaped chocolate (it was holding the chocolate until I ate it,at least) the little bear has a red ribbon around its neck, and the chocolate is wrapped in plastic and also decorated with a red ribbon. People tend to accociate red,(the ribbons) heart-shaped,(the chocolate) and “cute”(the teddy bear) things with Valentine’s Day, so I think the toy was made for this special holiday. This bear would make a great gift for your special someone. The person receiving it would feel that their life suddenly turned a little sweeter. (Thanks to the chocolate!)

My Valentine`s Day Media Text is…
A Valentine`s day Cupid Photo Frame.

This media text is a heart shaped picture frame with red roses, green leaves, gold ribbons, and at the bottom there is a small sculpture of cupid from the waist up. The colours on this media text are red for the roses, green for the leaves, gold for the ribbons, and white for the main outer frame and cupid. The FIGI GRAPHICS Company makes it and it was also hand painted. I think it costs $20 because it is nicely and neatly carved and it was hand painted. No I haven`t seen a commercial or add for this product and I don`t know which country it was made in. I like this media text because it looks very pretty and cute. Yes I do think my parents like it because it is very artistic and they`ve already put their picture in another one of the same frame. I don`t think this frame would scare anybody because it is for love reasons, not scary things like ghosts, witches, or jack-o-lanterns. I think people (couples) in love would want this because they can place a picture of themselves together in it. Lastly I wouldn`t want to collect it because it is just a photo frame, not a card or stamp. Actually I would collect it if there was a whole collection because at home I also have this heart shaped jewellery box with a cupid playing an instrument (wearing a rose wreath on his head), red roses, green leaves, and gold ribbons.

This media text consist of two stuffed teddy bears within a heart shaped figure holding a smaller heart that says “Love You”.This media text is made for couples because of the 2 hearts and the words “Love You” that implies that the person sending the media text must be in a relationship with the person recieving the media text. The colours consist of red and white. I think that they chose these coulours because red represents love and white stands out from the red. The bears might scare a little kid because a child might not understand why the bear is there. Therefore, the child might think that bears are mean and scary. When they see the bears, they might get scared.

My Media text is a teddy bear…
This teddy bear is a big biege colored bear wearing a aweater with a red hearton it. To girls, this would be cute because of it’s facial experession and sweater. I think this symboilzes Valentins Day because, first of all the bear is wearing a shirt with a RED heart and is inside a PINK basket with chocolate which in may peoples’ opinion, including mine, symbolizes Valentins Day. The most atrractive thing about this gift is it’s size, the basket needs to be a little bigger than the bear to fit the bear and the teddy bear is already pretty big so this gift is HUGE!! But the extra attraction to this gift is the chocolate inside the basket. Everyone loves chocloate, especially girls! I think children fromthe ages of 4-10 would like this gift because children at this age usually like stuffed animals.

  22. Eleshia Garrovillo

My Media text is a Valentines day card. It has red and pink decoration on the front, inside the card, and at the back. Information that the card contains is a message that says ” to Eleshia, happy valentines day and happy birthday from Valerie”. It is a friendly message and is dedicated to a certain person( Me). There could be a stereo type in the card. Because some people doesn’t like hearts or the colour red or pink or even that specific holiday. Valerie and/or Maymay is the intended audience because they are the ones who gave me the card the ones who made the card. The purpose is to greet someone happy valentines day to some one special or to a friend. This text was made with diffrent materials and creativity. It was made for my birthday and valentines day when i was 7 years old.

    Valentine’s Day Media Text

My media text is a bag of Hershey kisses. This is a bag of triangle shaped chocolate wrapped in silver, pink and red. Each chocolate has a line of paper that says “Hersey kisses” sticking out of the wrapper. This is a valentine media text because the colour of the wrappers are the colours that represent valentine’s day( red, pink and white). It is also a valentine media text because of the way the company decorated the package. The whole bag is pink with little hearts in the background. Another sign that it’s for valentine’s day is the position of the chocolates on the bag. A pink chocolate is all alone while a red and silver chocolate are leaning against each other making a heart shape. There is a message that says “Hugs and Kisses”. It was included because people think that it is what they would or should do on valentine’s day. I think this media text is targeting mostly teens our age(12) and older, or adults. Kids 12 or older might like this media text because it’s not too immature or mature. They might think it is a really nice gift for others. They might also like the message “hugs and kisses” but some little kids might say it’s disgusting or might not understand why two chocolates are leaning on each other on the package. Adults might like this too because they would think the message is really sweet. And the package might show their love towards the person they’re giving it to. This media text reinforces the stereotype of the use of colours on valentine’s day. They used pink, red and white in their product. It also shows that there should be love on valentine’s day. But I think some smaller boys might not like it. They wouldn’t like the colours because it is “girly” and they wouldn’t like the hearts either. If I were to change this package, I might add some superhero or cartoon characters on it to attract a wider range of audiences( for example: boys ages 4-6 when they still like superheros, boys ages 7 and up when they still like some cartoon characters, and grandparents because they might want to buy some chocolates for their grandson.)

  24. Brian T

My media text is an ad I found from the local newspaper. It is a print media and its purpose is to advertise roses from Food Basics. It has the colors pink, red and yellow on it. The pink and red represents valentine’s day and love. The yellow around the “cheap” price makes it pop out. The company “Food Basics” hired people to produce this media text to advertise their product. It is targeted mainly to people who celebrate valentine’s day. The word “WOW” wow in red around the picture of the roses makes it look great and it kind of pops out to show that it’s really good quality, it makes it look more appealing as well. I think that the media text is really well constructed and that it get’s its message through clearly. Some people who wouldn’t really be targeted would be younger kids and people who are single because it says “Happy Valentine’s Day!” which wouldn’t really be appealing to people who don’t celebrate valentines day.

  25. Joneeta Smith

My media text is three roses. It contains the colors red, pink, and green .On one of the roses it contains the words “I love you” second rose, “happy bithday Ann” third rose, “Happy Valentines day”. I think this male and female are in a relationship because, i don’t think a male would randomly give a women roses on valentines day. There has to be a reason, either their married or in a relationship. I think the audience is the women (Ann) because this media text is presented to her by a male. I think this media text is meant for people (couples) in love because, it’s most likely that the male would give the female roses if they have really strong feelings and don’t know how to say it, they would most likely show it in a romantic way. they would give chocolats, teddy bears, roses, …etc. I think ann will be happy wen she recieves her roses because its a sign of love.

This media text is an advertisement by Bell, showing multiple red phones with hearts on the screens, with a beaver above holding what seems to be a pink heart-shaped chocolate box. They are trying to take advantage of the fact that it is Valentine’s Day, perhaps thinking that most people think that they need a phone to call their Valentine. I do not think that this media text could easily scare somebody, although the fact that a beaver is smiling at you creepily is a little bit intimidating. The phones and the heart are pink to signify that it is Valentine’s day, but the beaver is brown like most (maybe the company is trying to be at least the least bit realistic). It does contain a stereotype, because there is so much pink, which is a stereotype related to Valentine’s Day. I can tell this was made by Bell, because of the beaver. I believe that the only reason the beaver is there is not for advertising, but for symbolizing the company (Bell). I probably would not be a customer of Bell because of the advertisement, but I would be a customer in general.

The item that I have chosen for my Valentine’s Day media text is a red and gold coloured small box of Lindt – Lindor chocolates. The box is covered with roses and hearts. There is a huge heart-shaped gap that has a transparent and clear plastic cover on the chocolate which enables the audience to take a glance at the chocolate. The chocolate itself is wrapped in a red coloured foil and is shaped in a heart. (I ate the chocolate though.) To be able to explain why this media is related to Valentine’s Day, we need to identify some key attributes of Valentine’s Day. For instance, I think that the colours of Valentine’s Day are all warm colours such as red, pink or light brown. Valentine’s Day is a day of love and warm colours really give you a heartwarming feeling. Love is often shown with the “heart” so it would make sense for red hearts to be an attribute. We could go on and on and on but for now, these attributes are all that I need because my media text is covered with RED HEARTS. And that is how this special box of chocolates is related to Valentine’s Day. I think this media text is aimed at men from the age of 20 and up. The reason why I selected men was because in our modern society, the man is usually the person who gives the Valentine’s Day gift to the woman. (If we were to talk about a heterosexual relationship.) I doubt that a woman will buy a box of chocolates for herself. It still might occur but the chances are slim. I chose the age minimum to be 20 years old because I think that that is when your mind REALLY starts to mature and you take “love” more seriously. It would be really weird for a teenage boy to be giving a box of chocolates to a teenage girl.

    • Howard H.

I’d also like to add that for some particular reason the ingredients label is printed in a very hard-to-read font that almost completely blends in with the background. (People who are colour-blind might find it hard to read) However, the nutrition facts are printed in a significantly EASY-to-read font! I think the reason for this is because people (especially females) tend to pay more attention to the nutrition facts than the ingredients because they want to maintain their health by using straight-forward facts. If we didn’t have nutrition facts, we’d have to unsolve every single nutrition fact in every single ingredient. (By ourselves.) And you know how lazy humans can get. That is probably why we value straight-forward facts.

My annalysis for V-day is a heart shaped pillow. The heart is red and inside the heart it says “I Love You”.And the words are in white.I think the pillow doesn’t have a target audience, because my sister bought the pillow for my mom.And it could also be for a girlfriend/boyfriend, parents, good friends etc.Anyone could be recieving it because the general message is “I Love You”, on the pillow it doesn’t name any specific person to give it to, like your mom or dad.The pillow is meant just to say “I Love You” .I think this pillow breaks the stereotypes, because anybody can and will buy this for someone they truly love.It could be a parent giving it to their child, or their child could give it to their parents.
